After-School Care Options
APS Extended Day ASFS has before and after school childcare onsite at the school. Usually, AM spots are more readily available. PM spots tend to fill up before school starts (waitlist). Even if Extended Day is full, it is beneficial to get on the waitlist, as you will be eligible to register at an earlier phase for the following school year. Baroody After-School Enrichment Classes take place at ASFS and are coordinated with the school administration for students to go seamlessly from the classroom to the Baroody enrichment options. Registration for the Fall 2026 session has closed. Information will be provided when available on enrollment dates and program options for future sessions.
Arlington Parks & Rec Break Camps Arlington County updates these offerings regularly to match the APS school calendar - it is recommended to bookmark this page.
Merit School of Arlington Merit offers drop-in care for early release days (they have a bus that will pick kids up from ASFS and bring them to Merit) and full days off. If interested in learning more contact Ebone at dir.clarendon@meritschools.com
Extracurriculars
Pack 167 is a family-focused pack for boys and girls K - 5th grade. Scouts take part in camping, hiking, fishing, community service projects, woodworking, outdoor activities, and other hands-on adventures.

Odyssey of the Mind (OM) is a creative problem-solving competition that engages kids in teamwork, critical thinking, and imagination. Students work together to solve long-term challenges that can involve building structures, writing skits, designing inventions, and more—all while having FUN!
OM is open to students in Grades K-12 (teams are formed by age/division).
Teams meet once per week for 1-2 hours from October 2026 through March 2027. The season includes regular weekly practices and concludes with one regional competition in March 2027.
Each team requires three adult roles: a Coach, a Judge, and a Tournament Day Volunteer (a 2-hour shift). No prior Odyssey experience is needed - we provide full training and resources. It’s a fun, rewarding way to foster the kids’ creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Registration is closed and teams have formed for 2026-27.
ASFS will have five teams this year:
Primary (K-2): 2 teams
Division 1 (3-5): 3 teams

Chill 5K runs on Sunday mornings at 0630 starting at Northside Social (Clarendon).
Each month, KidsGiving partners with a local nonprofit and gives students fun, meaningful ways to get involved:
Learn - Discover what the organization does and who it helps.
Volunteer - Take part in a hands-on service activity.
Give - Donate or make needed items
Students can choose from 2-4 activities each month and participate in as many as they’d like.
