Leave the cars at home and grab a friend, some neighbors, or your class WhatsApp group to walk/bike/roll to school!
Stop by a PTA table (near the blacktop, near the bridge, and near the back door at the top of the stairs) for a sticker and a snack!
We have enough volunteers - many thanks to those who raised their hands! We appreciate you!
Tips for Letting Kids Ride Alone
Practice first: Test the route together beforehand, pointing out safe crossings, traffic lights, and tricky intersections. It is great to create a route that picks up friends along the way making a mini bike bus!
Establish rules: Teach your child to stay alert, avoid digital distractions, and follow basic street safety.
Create a safety net: Identify neighbors, trusted family friends, or local shops along the way where your child can go in an emergency.
Go Together: Coordinate with friends, older/younger siblings, neighbors, or your class!
Preparing students at an appropriate age / developmental stage to get themselves to school and lock up their bike on their own can build confidence and resilience through real-world problem-solving and unguided experience. Walking or biking to school alone with parental permission can help children gain a sense of accomplishment and pride.
